Cross-Site Scripting refers to a vulnerability within web software that allows someone to inject malicious scripting code into content that could then be viewed by others. In such situations, normal protections provided by access controls used to define who can do what and where within the web software can by bypassed by the attacker. Updating software wherein a cross-site scripting vulnerability has been detected is considered critical and should be performed as soon as possible to protect not only the site in question, but others that may be located on the same server.
