A number of add-on modules used within Drupal installs were patched to day. These being: Admin Menu, Moderation System, Print & E-mail, and User Stats. Issues with the Notification System documented in the Bug Reports Workgroup are still ongoing. I encourage anyone getting unwanted notices to report such issues to me, and/or resort to turning notifications and subscriptions off until this matter is resolved. In light of this issue, I have disabled the mandatory membership within the Announcement group until a solution is found. An excellent alternative method is available in the form of RSS Feeds generated by the system, although you would probably have to pickup several of those!
What I am going to do, in an effort to resolve the issue, is to completely remove the Notification System and then re-install it. (Fast way to remove any stored settings associated with all Profiles. Then I will re-install it and re-configure it in a slightly simpler form in hopes that could be the cause of the duplicate notices. Will also restore the Feed API module to allow for subscriptions to be set to Feeds, in addition to the already working Mail and Simple settings. As before, I would GREATLY appreciate feedback posted into the Bug Reports Workgroup on the thread about the Notification System if these duplicate and/or unwanted notices continue to occur. Unwanted notifications appear to be generated when the status of content is changed, that is from being promoted to the front page or stickied to the top of lists. IMO, these should not be occuring as notifications are only supposed to go out when new content of some type is created, or an existing one has been updated.
