Profile is a term we use to refer to the personalized settings stored within an information system we design. Data stored in this area includes: the username associated with an account, their real name, e-mail, and password. Other types of data could be subscription or notification preferences, information provided by the user about themselves or their work, or other preferences in how a system functions. Keep in mind the exact type and nature of data stored will often vary between different systems we design. Updates to most data - such as password changes - can be managed by the user themselves, although verification may be required.
Those logged into a site will always be able to view the public portion of a Profile by clicking on someone's username in connection with content they have written. Assuming the opened Profile belongs to the person associated with it, an edit link or tab is provided. Those using a Drupal installs such as that used on this site, can reach it by clicking on the My Account link showing under their username in the Navigation menu when logged in.
